Luke Steyn
Bloemfontein, Free State
Luke Steyn is the youngest South African Champion in the history of clay target shooting. He won the 2021 South African Compak Championship at 15 years and 11 months with a score of 194 out of 200. He has represented South Africa at six world championships across Compak Sporting and FITASC Sporting: the 2018 World Compak Sporting Championship (Rio Salso, Italy), 2019 (Budapest, Hungary), 2022 (Cape Town, South Africa), 2023 (Greece), the 2024 World FITASC Sporting Championship (Hudson, Wisconsin, USA) and 2025 (Cyprus). As a coach, Luke concentrates on the technical and tactical side of the game. He teaches shooters to build a solid foundation, read each target properly, and pick the right technique for every presentation. The aim is clean, repeatable shooting that holds up in competition. His coaching focuses on stance and foot position, reading and assessing individual target presentations, choosing the right technique for each target, shot strategy and planning for every stand, and building consistency in competition. Luke brings the eye of a champion who reached the top of the sport early. He is a good fit for any shooter who wants to understand why a target is broken or missed, not just that it was.
